Announcing Merge’s New Sketchfab Integration
Here is a look at how our new Sketchfab importer benefits educators, students, and our growing network of content partners.
We’re so excited to announce a brand-new feature that will massively expand the universe of 3D content available for your classrooms: Merge 3D now features a direct Sketchfab integration!
Whether you are a teacher looking for the perfect 3D model for your next science lesson, a student bringing a project to life, or an institution looking to share your educational models with classrooms worldwide, this new tool is designed for you.
For Teachers and Students: An Endless Library of 3D Objects
Merge already provides over 1,000 educational 3D models for your students to use and digital teaching aids - but we don’t have everything. Sketchfab is home to an incredible community of 3D artists, scientists, and creators. With our new integration, bringing these amazing models onto the Merge Cube is easier than ever.
- Import Your Own Creations: If you or your students have public, downloadable models saved on your own Sketchfab accounts, you can now seamlessly import them directly from your Sketchfab library into Merge.
- Explore and Import Free Community Models: Need a model of a specific dinosaur, a historical artifact, or a human cell that isn’t already part of Merge? You can browse Sketchfab for any public, free-to-download model. Once you find the perfect one, simply copy the URL and paste it into the Merge Uploader.
- Instant Educational Labels: One of the best parts of this integration is that any label annotations included on the original Sketchfab model can be automatically imported as Object Viewer labels in Merge. This means the educational context and important details come right along with the model!
(Note: To ensure a smooth experience, the importer only works with models that the original creator has made both public and available for download.)

For Museums, Universities, and Future Partners
Through our Merge Open Educational Objects partnership program, we’ve seen the incredible impact of bringing authentic, professional 3D models into the classroom. We’ve already partnered with incredible organizations—like the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI)—to bring real-world scientific and historical models to students.

This new Sketchfab integration makes it even easier for future partners to share their work with the world.
- Expanded Reach: If your museum, university, or educational organization already uses Sketchfab to showcase your 3D archives, teachers can now easily bring those artifacts directly into the hands of their students using the Merge Cube.
- Built-In Attribution: We know how important it is that creators are recognized for their hard work. When a Sketchfab model is imported into Merge, our system automatically generates a 3D Model Attribution block. This block prominently displays the original title, the creator’s name, the license details, and a direct link back to the original Sketchfab page.
- Future Partners: If you become a Merge Partner, this direct import makes it even easier than ever for you to add your objects to your own Partner Page on Merge 3D to share out with the world.
How It Works
We’ve designed the Sketchfab importer within the Merge Uploader to be incredibly user-friendly. You don't need to be a 3D expert to use it!
- Connect: In the Merge Uploader, select the option to import from Sketchfab and sign in to link your Sketchfab account.
- Select or Paste: You can either choose a public, downloadable model straight from your "My Library" list, or paste the web URL of a free, downloadable model you found on the Sketchfab website.
- Preview and Import: Merge will show you a quick preview—including the creator, license, and size. You can edit the title or description, check the box to import annotations as labels, and hit import!
